French inland waterway cruise – 20 July 2017
Chagny
After our long and exhausting day yesterday, we decided to stay in our wild stop just outside Chagny for another night. We love these wild stops – so peaceful and relaxing. In the morning though, we walked into the town itself – about 1 km. A lovely little town, but not a lot happening.
Quite a few restaurants, including La Meloise, a 3 star Michelin place. Being keen foodies we looked at the menu – mmm – certainly not much for vegans, and the least expensive option was a tasting menu at Euro 82. Definitely not for us. We had hoped to find a brasserie or cafe where we could have only a beer or glass of wine, but there was nothing like that. There was also supposed to be a Thursday market, but it turned out to be only one or two local traders. So back to the boat.
And as I have mentioned several times, it was hot! Which is why there are all the covers and sun screens up all over the boat.
Later that day we took a walk along the canal and through Remigny and to Santanay – only about 3 kms. Santanay is definitely a wine village with several cellars or ‘cave’ as they are called there. But we were a bit too late and nothing was open. Again back to the boat and another leisurely evening on board, with our own prepared food and of course some wine.
More on Santanay next time.
