I last posted in May 2020 and just before that in March 2020, where I mentioned our plans to relocate to the UK.

Well, ‘you know what’ pretty well scuppered all that!

But suddenly, things are looking up!

We eventually arrived here in the UK in November 2020. My wife had set up to do live in care work, and she got off to a flying start. I had expected to resume marine consultancy work. For loads of reasons (economic situation, oil price, covid travel restrictions etc etc) nothing happened.

After months of applying for all and any sort of job, I am about to start working at a hire boat company on the Kennet and Avon Canal! Perfect job for a boating enthusiast.

And there is more. They have a small residential marine, and there is another huge residential marina a few metres away. We need to find somewhere to live anyway – so what better than a canal boat!?!?

There are thus 2 parts to this new chapter – the job, as well as buying another boat.

In the meantime, I have had a quick look round the area here and the nearest town of Devizes.

The town is at the top of the famous Caen Hill lock flight. It comprises 29 locks with the middle 16 a staircase set.

It is also the home of the Wadworth Brewery.

At the bottom of the flight is a solar powered pump station which pumps water back up to the top. The Kennet and Avon canal is 87 miles long, has 104 locks and links Bath and Reading where the canal joins the River Thames.
