Why a trip to The Three Magpies?
Several reason for the trip to The Three Magpies: Since I moved the boat to our mooring here at Foxhangers near Devizes, (Read about that trip here) the boat has hardly moved, other than across to the pump out. Since we bought the boat, Karen has done very little boating on her, and, we needed a diesel top up.
The trip
We left our mooring, went into Caen Hill Marina for diesel, and then headed down the K and A Canal towards The Three Magpies pub, which I suppose is really our local.
I should mention that the Three Magpies is a mere 10 min bike ride or 20 min walk away.
By boat, 30 mins, but one needs to go on to the nearest turning basin (or winding holes as they insist on calling them – no idea why?) which is through one swing bridge.
We cruised down on the Friday afternoon, turned around and moored up right by the pub.
Had a few drinks in the pub. Supper aboard later.
And then after a lazy morning, motored back to our mooring.
Looking forward to our next trip!
Bon voyage.
That sounds like loads of fun, and I’m sure a fair measure of hard work. Looking forward to a visit in the not too distant future. (Possibly September on the way to Crete via UK).
Look forward to seeing you guys over here! Boating here on the canals is somewhat different from France and the Netherlands. One, you do all the locks yourself, and two, you have to plan a turn around point!
